Silky Gravel, the Symphony, and low-flying JETS

had a tremendous weekend with the girl.
Headed to ann arbor on friday night with
nora and her army of blonde friends: lisa,
bethany, bethany and meg. we met up with
Hawk and piled into The Ark for a great
concert. a folksy singer named Kim Taylor
opened up for Over the Rhine. she also
sang along with the group from time to time.
over the rhine was terrific... a wonderful blend
of folk, jazz and blues! an amazing drummer
and Karen's vocals were like silky gravel. hot
hot heat!! some of us then sat in the lower level
of the heidelberg bar and drank dark dinkel beer.
Nora chatted with her old friends and Hawk and
i spouted off about how improv might be killing theatre
around here.
saturday we slept late and headed to the trendy
streets of royal oak. ate some noodles and walked
around the local shops. Nora then got her hairs cut
in birmingham and i sauntered around borders books.

because of a scheduling snafu we ended up at the JET
on saturday evening for an uninspired performance
of Nickel and Dimed... i don't know what the book was
like but the play was condescending, poorly paced, and
completely without soul or actual understanding of
working for a living on the low end of the scale. mr. Huff
had a few good turns... especially as a minnesotan store
manager and as a society lady. but all and all the show
was forgettable.

sunday afternoon the girl and i got all dolled up and
went to the Detroit Symphony for a performance of
Handel's Messiah. Nora looked gorgeous in a peach
colored dress and her fresh new hair cut and i cut a
handsome swath in my dark gray suit and paisley
bowtie. the symphony was great. flooded me with
memories of my father and also of my brother jim's
horn playing. ate a nice meal at Traffic Jam and headed
home to the couch for an evening movie... Bullworth

i have to say that i'm all for Bullworth for President
"Senator, just where is the nappy dugout?"

Comments:
ouch.

hey annie... didn't the script drive you insane? this woman was so shocked to see that people had to work for a living and sometimes that really sucks! thanx for the insight and the ray of light. Should never have been staged!

yeah, the script was bad, and the whole point of the book was sort of lost. I was just hoping you'd be like, "but annie sure was good". oh well.

I didn't really enjoy the process at all, though. It was pretty painful. Plus Huff was such a dick to me. Didn't know he had it in him.
